Migrant learners who attend our school and are following a Maltese A1 Course have recently visited two Maltese villages to have a taste of the typical Maltese life as well as having a short fieldwork.
Year 3 and Year 4 students went to the village of Żejtun, which is situated in the southern part of Malta. These students had the chance to visit the local council where the vice-mayor of the locality explained the work done and all the queries that they have to tackle in their day to day job. After going round the core of the village, students also visited a local pastizzeria and a bakery where they could see from close proximity the work done by workers in these popular outlets.
On the other hand Year 5 and Year 6 students visited the village of Qormi, renowned for their numerous bakeries. Even here this students walked through this old village filling in some exercises done on different spots. The students visited a popular bakery in Qormi where a representative from this outlet showed them around and gave them the chance to see how bread is made. Consequently children had the chance to taste a Maltese platter consisting of fresh bread, local cheeselets, bigilla, galletti and some dips. They really enjoyed every minute of this tasting session.
Finally these two years groups visited the local police station where two police officers explained more about their job and how they help in maintaining the order in this locality.
At the end, students were very satisfied from these visits and are longing of having other cultural visits to enrich their knowledge about various Maltese traditions.
