Kindergarten Classes celebrate Pet Day

In kindergarten, learning is taking a different form with topics being chosen by the children themselves led by their own interests. In the beginning of the 2nd term, the children from Class K1.2 and K1.3 decide to investigate and learn about their own pets. The topic kicks off with photos and videos sent in by the parents. The children were very excited to see their pets on the class computer and they notice that they have different sizes and characteristics. The children came up with questions such as ‘do big dogs eat as much as little dogs?’ and some trace their dogs’ bowl to investigate and compare. In class we talk about pet safety, our pets’ sense of smell and sight. We learn so much about our pets. Did you know that most animals have a better sense of smell than us? Our pets may have different vision than us too. We find out that birds see things in vivid colours while dogs see mostly in gray.

As a concluding activity, on the 11th February, we invite parents to bring the pets to school. We have all sorts of animals; dogs, a hamster, a fish, rabbit and a turtle. It was great fun to finally meet the animals we have been talking about in class.
