Year 5 and Year 6 students took part in an art project which was one of the events that formed part of the ŻiguŻajg International Arts Festival 2017.
During the art lesson, Ms Schembri talked to the students about the importance of making a wish for someone else. After this conversation, the teacher distributed a tag to each of the students in class and explained to the students that they could express their wishes in writing or by drawing on the tag. The students were then given three to five minutes to write or draw their wish.
During the Żigużajg Festival students visited the groves in front of Parliament and in Castille Square. Students were allowed to explore, play, see the wishes of other students and enjoy the grove. Then each student chose a coloured thread to weave his/her wish into the grove.
The Wishing Thread was a hands-on arts project where students co-created and ‘weaved’ art, hope and nature together. The aim of this project was to create a bond between the students and the trees that held their wishes. As students weaved their wishes among the trees, each grove became more colourful and fuller of hope. This project was inspired by the Vat Savitri Purnima festival in India.
