Students at Marsascala Primary were given a small taste of Commonwealth cultures and values. This whilst preparations are in hand for the summit of Heads of Government of Commonwealth countries, which will be held in London next month.
The British High Commissioner, Stuart Gill, said Commonwealth countries, in which one third of the world’s population live, have common values – prosperity, democracy and peace.
The High Commissioner added that issues like governance and economic and social development, promotion of equality, education and youths will be given priority in next month’s summit.
An activity was organised at Marsascala Primary by the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the British Council. Typical food from Commonwealth countries was handed out during the Commonwealth Big Lunch. In the children’s own words, food is a factor which unites different cultures.
Minister Carmelo Abela urged the children to expand their relationships even with other children from different countries and cultures. Minister Abela said the Commonwealth was an example of how intercultural communication can be strengthened.
