Finally face to face

Year 6.2 students embarked on an eTwinning project at the beginning of this scholastic year with a class of students from CEIP Salvador Espriu in Badalona, Spain. After a whole year working with these partners, we finally had a videoconferencing session where they could actually meet and see the real persons we were working with.

The project is called ePostcards from Europe and its main aim was to create digital postcards including student-taken photos and descriptions uploaded on a blog for the partners to review and comment about. The blog is: https://epostcardsfromeurope.blogspot.com/ The Spanish teachers and I set some topics to discuss each month for the children to make their postcards on. We worked with topics like ourselves, our hometown, our country, our feasts, our climate… Every month the students took photos of their topic, did research work and then we uploaded short commentaries with our photos. We also had several of our outings included in this project, like the fieldwork in Valletta, the trekking in Selmun and the fieldwork of Hagar Qim.

Apart from the blog we also decided to pair the students of both classes so that they could each have a penfriend. They sent letters, cards, postcards and crafts to each other by post and enjoyed both sending packages and receiving back personalized items.

Therefore when last Monday we met online, the students were really excited as they could finally meet their penfriends. Each pair talked to each other and said which part of this project they enjoyed best.
